In order to practice well, keep these basic guidelines in mind:
Create a good practice area
Free yourself of distractions
Find a supportive chair & a music stand
Get a pencil!
Set

Something unattainable "I will master

Create a routine
Breathing exercises (1-2 minutes)
Long tones, lip slurs, or rudiments (1-2 minutes)
Scales (3 minutes)
Book work (5-7 minutes)
Band music (10-15 minutes)
Something fun (3 minutes)
Listen to yourself
Find the mistakes, play it slowly, and then gradually speed up
Once you've fixed the section, play through the entire piece and listen to see that you've fixed it.
